“You must try to heal orself and live as long as possible because this human bdy is the most valuable source of spiritual learning of all forms of ibrth. Drink this water and practice these meditations and heal with your whole heart. And if this fails and you know youa re dying is sit time to switch to the death practices. Don’t die yet.” (The Precious Human Body, The Wise Heart, Jack Kornfield. 116)

In the forest monastery of Ajahn Buddhadadsa, we were instructed to be mindvul of the feeling tone of each sound and of each activity. As we walked the forest paths in the morning, we noticed the neutral tone of our steps, the pleasant way our body swayed. By the afternoon wwe felt the unpleasant, hot, sticky sweat of tropical midday bearing down on our body. Each time we slowed down to rest or sist or read, we tried to sensethe feeling tone – present, neutral, or unpleasant 00 and then to notice if there was a reaction to it. (127)

…Jacob wanted to go deeper in his practice, and he agreed to study his primary feelings. I suggested he write a letter to himself about the things he was hiding from his own awareness. I reminded Jacob of the Buddhas teachings of nobility and invited him to hold himself as if he were a prince. I aksked him t oacknowledge that he deserved to be fully alive.  .. Jacob had touched nobility and freedom. He could always return.

When people first begin to be mindful of their personality they are frequently dissatisfied by what they find: they often want to become like someone else. When we are looking for ways to deal with our own confuscion, anger and fear, we try imitation. We hope to get rid of our own personality and become more like the Dalai Lama or some other admired person.

..I can ignore conflicts and get lost in a goal. The good news is that I’m not my personality. None of us is. (176)

PRACTICE: Acknowledign your personality type:

Notice how theis personality style is an impersonal peattern that operates rather automatically.
Notice if you hold any judgmet about it, and see what happens if you let the judgment go.
Notice what is most valuable about their temperament, such as appreciation, clarity, or an easygoing nature.
See what happens if you focus on these positive aspects.
